The Jones County Sheriff's Department operates under the leadership of Sheriff Joe Berlin who was elected in November 2019 and took office on January 6, 2020. Sheriff Berlin was re-elected in November 2023 and was sworn in for his second term on December 28, 2023.
The Sheriff is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in Jones County. Sheriff Joe Berlin's command staff includes Chief of Operations Scott Sims, Chief of Investigations and Narcotics Vince Williams, Patrol Division Captain JD Carter, and Corrections Division Warden Abraham McKenzie.
The Jones County Sheriff's Department has a combination of law enforcement officers, corrections officers and civilian employees whose mission is to provide for the safety and security of the 67,000 plus residents of Jones County, Mississippi. These dedicated personnel give of themselves to serve and are on the front line each and every day responding to incidents 24 hours a day, 7 days and week and 365 days a year (except during a Leap Year when there are 366 days).
