Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over

The Jones County Sheriff's Department will be participating in the national Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over campaign beginning Friday afternoon, August 21st, and continuing through Monday morning, September 7th, 2020. JCSD will utilize overtime grant funding through the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety to conduct safety checkpoints and saturation patrols aimed at interdicting those who are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
"During the ten year period from 2009-2018, over 10,000 people died annually in drunk driving crashes in the United States," notes Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin. He adds, "Our deputies will be out in force to locate and arrest those drivers who are operating their vehicles while impaired."
JCSD Patrol Division Captain Scott Sims advises, "Be responsible and have a safe and sober ride home before beginning drinking alcohol. Don't let anyone get behind the wheel if that person has been drinking. If you are hosting a party where alcohol is being served, make sure everyone has a sober ride home. Always wear your seat belt. It's your best defense against impaired drivers who may be trying to drive on the same roadway as you. If you see an impaired driver who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs call 911 so that we can get them stopped before they kill or injure others or themselves."
Sheriff Berlin concludes by saying, "Impaired drivers can expect to spend time with us at the Jones County Sheriff's Department Adult Detention Facility. The easy way to avoid that is to not operate your vehicle while impaired."
