Early Morning Pursuit Lands Wanted Subject In Jail
An early Tuesday morning pursuit of a motorcycle being ridden by a wanted fugitive by a Jones County Sheriff's Department deputy ended up with the motorcyclist crashing and requiring medical treatment before being transported to the Jones County Adult Detention Facility facing numerous charges.
Antonio Barnett, who was wanted by the Laurel Police Department and the Jones County Sheriff's Department on multiple charges, fled from Jones County Sheriff's Department Deputy Bradley Boyd on Interstate 59 at the 102 Mile Marker when a traffic stop was attempted. Barnett crashed his motorcycle after a pursuit which ended on County Road 33 in Jasper County and was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment before being transported to jail.
Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin noted, "Antonio Barnett is well known to local law enforcement and has fled law enforcement officers before leading to charges of Felony Fleeing. He will now face justice for a multitude of charges that were pending against him with the Laurel Police Department and the Jones County Sheriff's Department before this pursuit. We will be adding several more charges as a result of his decision to flee this time."
Berlin concludes, "Run all you want. We at the Jones County Sheriff's Department are patient, we are diligent, we are tireless, and we are relentless in our pursuit of those who break the law."
