JCSD REPORTS HIGHWAY SAFETY RESULTS

The Jones County Sheriff's Department conducted grant funded overtime traffic safety checkpoints and saturation patrol details during the department's March 13th - April 9th twenty-eight day work period. The traffic citation and arrest results from these details are as follows:
No Insurance - 76
No Driver License - 53
Suspended Driver License - 37
Seatbelt - 22
Reckless/Careless Driving - 21
Child Restraint Seat Violation - 9
Drug Arrests - 7
Fugitives Apprehended - 6
DUI Other (Drugs) - 5
DUI Assist To Others - 5
DUI Alcohol - 4
Child Endangerment DUI - 1
Felony Arrests - 1
"We work these grant-funded overtime details funded by the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety to take make our roadways safer for the traveling public," notes Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin. He adds, "During this period, in addition to traffic citations, we made 15 DUI arrests, 7 drug arrests, apprehended 6 wanted fugitives, and made 1 felony arrest. Anyone who finds fault with that effort needs to talk to the family of a person killed by a drunk driver or a crime victim waiting for the criminal in their case to be arrested. We are proud of the effort made by our deputies to make Jones County a safer place to live."
