Scam Alert!

Scammers are at it again today in Jones County using the "Missed Jury Duty" scam as a way of stealing unsuspecting resident's hard-earned money. The scammer is spoofing the Jones County Sheriff's Department main phone number at 601-425-3147 and identifying himself as Deputy Dennis Davis. The intended victim is advised that they missed jury duty and are facing arrest due to the judge signing a bench warrant if the situation is not rectified. Inevitably, the scammer advises that a payment must be made using a debit style card in order to avoid arrest. This is a total scam and callers should just hang up. The Jones County Sheriff's Department does not call residents who missed jury duty and demand a payment over the phone using a debit style card or even an online cash transfer application. Residents are advised to please be aware of the scam and avoid becoming a victim.
