Severe Weather Threat Saturday March 15 2025
Jones County has been placed under a high risk (Level 5 of 5) for severe weather on Saturday, March 15th. Strong, violent, long track tornadoes (up to EF4 and EF5 with wind speeds greater than 166 mph) are possible per the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Jackson, Mississippi. This event has the potential for tornadoes matching the destruction of some of our most impactful events from the past.
The Jones County Safe Room will open at 11:00pm on Friday, March 14, 2025. Please check the Jones County Emergency Operations Center Facebook page for updates on the opening time. In addition to the high tornado threat, damaging winds to 70mph and large hail are both possible. Planning for severe weather by you and your family and friends should already be underway. Those residents living in mobile homes, campers, or substandard housing should seek shelter in substantially built homes or emergency shelters.
